History

Harvey F. Blackmore was born on January 18, 1915 in the United Kingdom, and spent part of his childhood in colonial India. After graduating with a degree in Civil Mining, Blackmore worked as a petroleum engineer throughout the Middle East, with a stint as a Royal Airfore Volunteer during World War II. In 1951, Blackmore moved to Canada with his wife Joan M. Rodwell; however, his work took him and his family across the world, with positions in Libya, Malta, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Bahrain. While working in Bahrain in the late 1960s, Blackmore took up archaeology, receiving permission from the ruler of Bahrain to conduct excavations on local burial mounds. Blackmore died in _____; his son, A. Harvey Blackmore, donated his father’s extensive collection of artifacts from Bahrain to the Laboratory of Archaeology, while papers belonging to Harvey F. were acquired by LoAA at the same time.
