History
Warren Caldwell received his BA and MA from Stanford University in 1949 and 1950 respectively, followed by a PhD from the University of Washington in 1956. The same year, Caldwell joined the Smithsonian Institution's River Basin Surveys, becoming its director in 1966. In 1969, he became Chairman of the Department of Archaeology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His archaeological research focussed mostly on the Northwest and Midwest of the United States.
