Scope and content

This file consists of artifact catalogues detailing Jōmon period pottery sherds in the Professor Serizawa Collection. Within are two copies of the same catalogue: one is the original written in Japanese, and the other is a photocopy with English translations written beside certain terms. The catalogue is attached to an “application for export of ancient art products”, specifying transfer of the collection out of Japan to Professor Richard Pearson at UBC. These documents are stored together as the artifact catalogue served as an inventory list of the materials being transferred, required as part of the application. The application is not translated.

In addition, there is a photocopy of a chart which lists the time period (Early Jōmon, Middle Jōmon, Late Jōmon, etc.) and site/place of excavation for artifacts J:1-J:26 in the collection. This chart is untranslated and there is no further record of an original version.
