Bereik en inhoud

This file consists of correspondence between professors at Tohoku University and the University of British Columbia, arranging for and exchanging information about transferring the Professor Serizawa Collection out of Japan to UBC. Included is a 1978 letter from Professor Chosuke Serizawa to Professor Richard Pearson, regarding the transfer of artifacts out of Japan and accompanying documentation, which as of this time has not been translated. Envelopes for this letter are also present, saved since notes have been written on them. Another piece of correspondence is a memo from Professor Pearson to another professor in Japan in 1976, discussing the arrangement for artifact exchange between universities, of which the Professor Serizawa Collection was a part of.

As well, there are writings between Professor Pearson and Director/Professor Michael Ames at UBC’s Department of Anthropology, regarding bringing the collection in through Canadian customs. A later attached Post-It note from curatorial staff in 1999 shows that this correspondence was grouped with materials from the Professor Serizawa Collection after being discovered in other records.
