Administrative history

Golder Associates was founded in Toronto, Canada in 1960 as H. Q. Golder and Associates. In the 1960s and early 1970s, Golder Associates established a presence in other parts of Canada and expanded into the U.S., U.K. and Australia. In April of 2021, Golder and Associates was Acquired by WSP Global Inc.

Custodial history

This material was transferred from Golder to the Lab of Archaeology sometime after the project was
completed and the revised final report was written in 2004. In 2011, the collection was re-housed in the
current LOA archives location (room 221A at MOA).

Scope and content

In 2002, Genex Development Corporation requested that Golder and Associates carry out an archeological recovery project which falls within the site boundaries of DgRr-1, where Genex had been contracted to construct a family residence. DgRr-1, a large and partially disturbed shell midden site, extends throughout the proposed development area. Prior to this, demolition of the previous house and disturbance of the site had already taken place. Golder consulted with the Semiahmoo, Stól:ō, and Tsawwassen First Nations; a Stól:ō Heritage Investigation Permit was obtained, and Don Welsh was assigned to the team as a representative of the Semiahmoo. Faunal remains included shellfish, salmon, dogfish, loon, and domestic dog.

General note

Throughout these materials, the site is erroneously mis-labelled as DgRs-1 (Beach Grove site). The updated version of the final report, issued in 2004, corrects this error to DgRr-1 (Crescent Beach site).
