Custodial history

Documentary materials related to this project were transferred from Leonard Ham to the Lab of Archaeology sometime after March 26th 2005, and have remained under LOA’s custody since their transfer. In 2011, the collection was re-housed in the current LOA Archives location (room 221A at MOA). Any recovered belongings (artifacts) were deposited with the Royal British Columbia Museum (RBCM), Victoria.

Scope and content

In 2002, 2003, and 2004 the Corporation of Delta carried out Capital Works projects, and emergency maintenance projects conducted by Engineering Operations in the Tsawwassen area of South Delta. Leonard Ham, Archaeologists & Heritage Consultant was contracted to review, monitor and inspect the trench excavations in areas with identified archaeological concerns and implement the appropriate emergency impact management procedures during the Capital Works and emergency maintenance projects under HCA permit 2002-0382. Support for this project at the time was also received from the Tsawwassen, Semiahmoo and Stó꞉lō First Nations.
Due to the scope of the projects carried out by Engineering Operations (Corp. of Delta), individual reviews, monitoring, inspections and other archaeological projects were compiled and previous archaeological inventories and reports were consulted during the process. The projects encountered a variety of archaeological materials across the Tsawwassen area of South Delta, including belongings and faunal remains. During the course of this report and survey, archaeological material from two supposed midden sites (DgRs-1 and DgRs-2) were transported and deposited on the Tsawwassen First Nation reserve for screening, and the new area for these deposits was designated as DgRs-55.
Overall, the sites surveyed include: DgRs-1, DgRs-2, DgRs-18/DgRs-3, (DgRs-3 now recorded as DgRs-18), DgRs-5, DgRs-7, DgRs-9, DgRs-10, DgRs-14, DgRs-54. Newly recorded DgRs-55.

This fonds consists of material pertaining to the review, monitoring, and inspection of The Corporation of Delta, 2002, 2003, and 2004 Capital Works projects, and of emergency maintenance projects conducted by Engineering Operations in the Tsawwassen area of South Delta by Leonard Ham, Archaeologists & Heritage Consultant under HCA 2002-0382. Included in these materials are updated BC archaeological site inventory forms and a final report created after the projects were completed.
This fonds consists of one box and is arranged into two series:
1. BC Archaeological Site Inventory Forms
2. Reports
